The great news of this edition was the creation of a specific category for vermouths, thus reinforcing the importance of its positioning along with wine in the competition.
Padró & Co.'s Rojo Amargo, with a score above 92 points out of 100, once again showed its exceptional quality. A vermouth of character, which begins its elaboration with a first infusion made up of mountain herbs, keeping a 2-year rest in chestnut barrels. After this aging, a second infusion is added, with more bitter plants, which give it more strength.
In this vermouth we can see ripe orange peel, cinnamon, cloves and apricot raisins on the nose. The bitter sensations in the mouth are of cinchona, licorice and honey caramel. The whole forms an explosion of flavor, pleasantly bitter, reminiscent of the most intense Italian vermouth.
The medal collection is completed by Padró & Co.'s Rojo Clásico, awarded the Gold Bacchus and Dorado Amargo Suave as well as Padró & Co.'s Special Reserve, which won the Silver Bacchus awards in the most important international competition that takes place in Spain.
The Spanish Union of tasters (UEC) is organizing this competition, which is endorsed by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), the World Federation of Major International Wine and Liqueur Competitions (VINOFED) and the Ministry of Agriculture of Spain.
Eighty expert tasters from different nationalities formed this year's jury, including Masters of Wine, winemakers, sommeliers, specialized journalists and other professionals in the sector. The jury carried out a rigorous blind test - lasting four days - of 1578 references brought from the five wine-growing continents of the world: Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and America.
